Andaman Sea, South of Thailand

ANEMONE REEF [ ANDAMAN SEA ]

Anemone Reef is a collection of rocky plateau. As you might guess, the top part of the reef is smothered in sea anemones; there are many resident clownfish, shrimps and Porcelain Crabs. Elsewhere on the reef you will find large clusters of soft corals and enormous gorgonian seafans. At its deepest point a solitary rock is home to a group of juvenile moray eels. For experienced divers only.

HIN DAENG / HIN MUANG [ ANDAMAN SEA ]

One of the best dive spots in Thailand (truly a world-class dive site). The 2 rocks with vertical walls dropping straight down to 50-60m are completely covered with hard and soft coral, sea fans, sea anemones and attract large school of jacks as well as fusiliers, tuna and barracuda. Hin Daeng is also perhaps the only place in Thailand where Grey reef sharks can be seen in schools of up to 15 sharks. The richness and variety of pelagic fish compares to that found at Richelieu Rock, particularly for the sight of whale shark.

KING CRUISER WRECK [ ANDAMAN SEA ]

The 70 meters steel hulled passenger ferry had been sunk on May 1997 by hurting Anemone Reef. That huge catamaran rests within the zone of Shark Point Marine Sanctuary in about 30 meters of water on a sandy bottom. Divers can swim through most of the wreck. For experienced divers only.

KOH BON [ ANDAMAN SEA ]

A tall, rocky island, offer varied and beautiful underwater scenery. At Koh Bon, a steep, rocky point, which plunges to over 40 meters' depth, is often a good place to see Leopard Sharks and large rays. Here is also a good place to see big pelagic creatures; both Mantas and Whale Sharks are seen here with fair regularity.

KOH DOC MAI [ ANDAMAN SEA ]

The East Side of the island offers a wall rich in invertebrates and a good representation of tube corals. There are large moray eels, Black-banded Sea Snakes, Honeycomb Groupers and angelfish, and you have a good chance of seeing Leopard Sharks out on the sand. The western side of the island features a steeply sloping reef. Both Blacktip and Whitetip Reef Sharks have been seen here as well as visiting pelagic are often on view. For divers of all levels.

KOH TACHAI [ ANDAMAN SEA ]

A pair of coral-encrusted pinnacles, which are connected by a long, rocky ridge. Currents, which are extremely rich in nutrients, sweep this site and plankton, resulting in outstanding growths of sea fans, whip corals and other filter feeders. This is also a good area for Leopard Sharks and Stingrays, but probably the most over-whelming attraction is the schooling fish action.

RACHA NOI ISLAND [ ANDAMAN SEA ]

Dives consist of rocky slopes, coral gardens and huge rock pinnacles. Marine life here includes both hard and soft corals, crinoids of many colors, and a wide variety of reef fish with occasionally pelagic fish. Many divers compare the dive spot with those in the Similan/Surin Islands. For experienced divers only.

RACHA YAI ISLAND [ ANDAMAN SEA ]

Dives on the East Side are with easy conditions, clear water and a good variety of marine life. Dives on the West side consist mostly of granite rocks, sparse coral growth, invertebrates and a good variety of reef fish. Racha Yai Island is the perfect place for a diver to do a check dive. For divers of all levels.

RICHELIEU ROCK [ ANDAMAN SEA ]

The world's top listed location for sighting Whale Sharks and Mantas. One of Thailand's best dives, this is a wall-dive around the main outcrop, which is surrounded by smaller submerged pinnacles. Around the corals is a wide diversity of marine life: common residents include Schooling Banner fish, Single-spot and Giant Snappers, Scorpion fish, Moray eel, and colorful nudibranch. As this is the only food source in the immediate area, it is excellent for large pelagic. Rainbow runner, Great barracuda, Trevally, Tuna and jack are frequently observed.

SHARK POINT (HIN MUSANG) [ ANDAMAN SEA ]

Shark Point is classified as a Marine Sanctuary. This reef is home to an incredible profusion of sea creatures with soft and hard corals, tropical and pelagic fish and Leopard-Sharks for great pictures. The density and diversity of marine life here is favorably compared to the best coral reefs anywhere in the world. For experienced divers only.
